Between enthusiasm and pedagogical fear: lived experience of mathematics teachers facing ICT

Abstract
This study explores the lived experience of mathematics teachers in integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into their pedagogical practices. Through a qualitative approach and phenomenological design, in-depth interviews were conducted with five highly qualified teachers to capture the essence of their perceptions, challenges, and strategies. The findings reveal a fundamental contradiction: on one hand, teachers report an overwhelmingly positive experience, viewing ICT as a powerful tool for motivating students, energizing the classroom, and making abstract concepts tangible. On the other hand, this optimistic vision clashes with institutional inertia and a profound pedagogical fear. This fear manifests as concern about fostering 'cognitive laziness' that undermines the discipline of reasoning, alongside structural barriers such as deficient infrastructure and the perception of insufficient training support and follow-up by authorities. The study reveals a strong consensus among teachers that gender is an irrelevant factor in digital competence, which is attributed more to age and personal interest. The adoption of hybrid methodologies, strengthening of teacher training, and implementation of public policies that guarantee the necessary resources and support are recommended.
