Origin, evolution and development of the Municipal District of Angelina

Abstract

Since the first settlers of Angelina arrived, they were dedicated to agricultural production, mainly to the cultivation of rice. It is argued that, in the government of the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, (1930), the construction of the main canal was arranged to irrigate the land dedicated to rice planting in the Sánchez Ramírez province, and Las Guáranas, San Francisco Macorís. From this parent channel, the construction of others was followed to facilitate water access to rice plots that are grown throughout Angelina"s territory and other areas of the province. According to the sources consulted, in the Municipal District of Angelina there are 57.768 tasks of rice, 6375 tasks of banana, 16,648 tasks dedicated to livestock, 1,324 tasks of minor crops and a large milk production. It is cultivated, Banana, Pineapple, Corn, Beans, Guandules, Sweet Potato, Cassava, Orange, Milky, among other items. In recent decades, this community has grown a lot in all orders, but especially in the aspect of education. Until the moment in which this document was written there were nine educational centers, within which two of the secondary level, the one that today bears the name of “Juan Francisco Alfonsea” located in the neighborhood of El Pescozón, founded in 1987 and the “Olinda Grullon”, of recent creation, located in the sector of“Hoyo de Oro. ” Without a doubt it can be said that this municipal district has a remarkable development with an urban aspect after its streets were paved, (in management from President Danilo Medina, 2016-2020), thanks to the long-standing efforts of community leaders who have historically struggled to make Angelina what she is today.
