Education in the historical context of the Quita Sueños Municipal District

Abstract

The general objective of this research was to investigate the origins of education in the central core of the Municipal District of Quita Sueños, Municipality of Cotui. According to the classification criteria of the research, this study is located within the historical-descriptive dimension, it also acquires a documentary nature, as it is a narrative framed in an analysis of the local history of what is today the central nucleus of the municipal district of Quita Sueños. The philosophical conception of research is focused on the inductive and analytical method under the positivist paradigm. From that perspective, the analysis was carried out under the qualitative approach. Theinstrument technique used was the interview with different personalities of this social conglomerate. In relation to the referential framework, each aspect is described, taking into consideration the origin, evolution and development of education in the sector where the research was carried out. As for the findings, it is believed that it had its historical antecedents from the beginning of colonization on the island, whose town was given the name of Cotoy. Its status was limited to the authority of Cacique Guarionex as it was part of the Chiefdom of Maguá, as was the rest of the Sánchez Ramírez province. It is stated that in 1956 the first educational center was built,located on the Presa de Hatillo highway, reaching the “Isleta”, this school had one teacher with one classroom and an enrollment of 20 students. Then in 1962 another school was built in another place higher up, this one was made of palm board wood, wooden floor, zinc roof, ithad two classrooms and two teachers and it functioned from 1st to 4th grade, with an enrollment of 45 students.
