Abstract
Timber and forestry plant production is constrained in the Dominican Republic partly by inadequate selection of local materials and predominantly clay-textured soils. This study evaluated the nursery performance of four timber species across five organic-fertilization-based substrates in a field experiment in Quita Sueño, Sánchez Ramírez province, using a split-plot, completely randomized 4×5 factorial design with four replications. Cedar and corazón de paloma showed the greatest height (avg. 33.01 cm), with substrates S2 and S3 producing the tallest plants; cedar and melina showed the greatest stem thickness; mahogany produced the highest dry-matter percentage and foliar nitrogen; and corazón de paloma showed the highest potassium content. Statistically significant differences were found among species for all variables, among substrates for height, thickness, and P/K content, with species-by-substrate interaction effects for height, thickness, and nitrogen.
