Abstract

This research was conducted in the Margajita River basin, located in the Pueblo Viejo and Hatillo area, Sanchez Ramirez province, Dominican Republic. The objective was to assess the hydrogeological conditions of the basin and the impact of anthropogenic activities on water resource quality. The hydrology and hydrogeology of the basin were characterized; the physical, chemical, and bacteriological characteristics of surface and groundwater were determined through laboratory analysis; and the types of water present were identified using Piper, Stiff, and Schoeller diagrams. The basin contains hydrogeological groups A, B, C, and D, with group C predominating, covering approximately 60% of the total area. The analytical results indicate that surface waters exceed established limits for various parameters, evidencing the impact of mining activities, agriculture, livestock farming, and wastewater discharge.
