Abstract

The study conducted showed that: 99% of students in the second cycle of Secondary Education in Educational District 16-01, Cotuí, wish to pursue a university degree, but 61.91% of them face financial constraints in achieving this goal—a factor that reveals a considerable degree of poverty in the municipality of Cotuí and surrounding areas. The study revealed that a large segment of the secondary-education student population is unaware of the opportunities offered by ITECO University; 46.73% are unaware of the tangible reality of this institution in terms of the opportunities it offers to students wishing to enroll. The study revealed that 48.86% of the secondary-education student population wishing to pursue a university degree is unaware of the mission, vision, and objectives of ITECO University as an institution that defines itself as being at the service of the community; only 64.58% of the secondary-education population is aware of the degree programs offered by ITECO University, and 32.44% have never visited the ITECO campus. It is recommended, to the authorities of the Instituto Tecnológico del Cibao Oriental (ITECO): a) Rector, Lic. Esclarecida Núñez de Almonte; b) Deans and Faculty Directors, Unit Directors, and Program and Area Coordinators: that they organize work teams made up of the university's different administrative divisions to carry out advertising and recruitment campaigns for students inclined to pursue technical-professional degrees at ITECO. That they implement campaigns to publicize the university's mission, vision, and objectives through talks, radio and television advertising, and brochures. To the Public Relations Department: that they organize advertising campaigns through various media to publicize the university, the opportunities it offers to the population, and its academic programs. To the Sports and Culture Department: that it organize activities to integrate secondary-level educational centers with the university.
