Abstract
The influence and participation of parents and guardians in the quality of their children's education in Educational District 16-01, Cotuí, is a concern for the educational community in general. Parents', guardians', and school friends' participation in their children's education can be affected from different angles, such as: the limited time families have to get involved, participating alongside the teacher in raising their children, since the daily tasks required to earn a living to support their families lead parents to devote most of their time, Monday through Sunday, to this activity, which prevents them from participating in their children's education. The lack of parental involvement in school activities, as well as the lack of motivation and knowledge on the part of parents, means that their children's performance in the educational process is not as effective as it could be. This study used non-experimental, descriptive research; the study population consisted of one school director, 33 teachers, 678 students, and 175 parents and guardians, with a sample of one director, 33 teachers, 203 students, and 35 parents; the simple random sampling technique proposed by Krejcie and Morgan was used for students and parents, while a census technique was used for the director and teachers. The results were as follows: according to demographic characteristics, the vast majority of the teaching population is female; the urban area is the most populated; the parent population is young; unlike teachers and the director, who have an adequate academic level, parents and guardians have a very low academic level. Regarding influence and participation, parents and guardians with greater participation in the school have children with more meaningful learning. The research team proposed the following recommendations: to district authorities, to promote greater integration between school and community through follow-up and motivation of the APMAE (Parent-Teacher Association) and the school board. To the school director, to provide parents and guardians with more influence and participation in decision-making. To teachers: to hold meetings with parents and guardians in each grade to discuss strengths and weaknesses in their children's learning, among other very relevant recommendations for improving the quality of education.
